Have you thought about prayer?

Have you ever had a problem? What to do when this happens? What is the right decision to make? And how to know?

I am convinced that each of you have already experienced this kind of situation and that these questions have arisen in your mind. Whether because of an ordeal, a difficult time, an important question or something else, each of you found yourself in a situation where you said, “I do not know what to do! ” Where do we go to find solutions when this happens? How to get out of this situation? How to find the help we need? Or, even, are we looking for help when that happens? Or do we try to fend for ourselves until we exclaim: “I do not know what to do anymore! “?

At the October 2014 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, a general authority of the Church, gave a speech in which he spoke about prayer. He said that God cares for you. He will listen to your personal questions and he will answer them.

Remember that when you go through a difficult time: “God cares for you”. You can talk to him. You can pray. You can tell him what you have on your heart and ask him for help. He loves you and wants to help you. Just ask him.

Sometimes the answer to our prayers comes right away. Suddenly, everything becomes clear and we know what the right decision to make is. Or a third option, which we would never have thought of before, comes to us and we feel that it is the right thing to do. At other times – and this is more common – the answer does not come right away. And sometimes we even think that the answer to our prayers should be the one we want and that it should happen the way we want it. We often think that it is enough to pray for an angel to come down from the sky and tell us exactly, and in detail, what to do and how to do it. But it does not happen like that. So we give up and we say that the prayer does not work, that it is useless and we will not pray anymore. But remember this: “God cares for you” He knows you and knows what you are going through. He listens to your prayers and answers them. It may take time and it may not happen the way you imagined, but he will answer.

I would like to invite you to try to do all these things. Study the scriptures, meditate, pray with faith and trust God. Personally, I did it – more than once – and I can testify to you that God is listening to us and answering our prayers. Sometimes his answers take a long time to arrive, but they arrive. Sometimes they arrive unexpectedly, through a feeling, a thought or a person who tells us something without even knowing our situation. And all these things happen, not by chance or by chance, but because God knows us, He loves us, He listens to us, and because He wants the best for us, He answers us in His own way and in His time. Trust Him, be patient and you will see his answers in your life.
